The Old Jail (10/12/05) Find out what life was like behind bars inside The Old Jail in Jim Thorpe, PA. It was used as the Carbon County Prison from 1871 to 1995. The prison once housed the Molly Maguires, who were hanged after being found guilty of murder in the late 1800's. Throughout the trial, the men proclaimed their innocence and a peek inside Cell 17 reveals a handprint on the wall that one of the men left before being hanged. It's remained on the wall despite being washed, painted and plastered over throughout the years.One-way distance: 60 miles from Downtown Reading One-way time: 1 hour, 15 minutes CLICK HERE for more information. |
