Kutztown Road will be closed and detoured between Route 100 and Route 663 in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, starting Monday (August 31) until late December for the replacement of the bridge over the Molasses Creek.
During construction to replace the structurally deficient bridge, Kutztown Road through traffic will be detoured over Route 100, Route 29, and Route 663. Local access will be maintained on Kutztown Road up to the construction area. PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said the Kutztown Road Bridge replacement project is part of Gov. Edward G. Rendell’s Rebuild Pennsylvania initiative to invest an additional $350 million this fiscal year to help pay for repair or replacement of 411 structurally deficient bridges statewide. “Kutztown Road is one of 29 structurally deficient bridges in the five-county Philadelphia region that is moving into construction on an accelerated schedule under Governor Rendell’s initiative to reduce the number of structurally deficient bridges,” Toaso said. Under the $582,000 project, crews will remove the old one-lane, 18.6-foot wide stone arch bridge, which was built in 1895. They will replace it with a new two-lane reinforced concrete structure that will be 26.5 feet wide and 24 feet long. Kutztown Bridge carries approximately 1,541 vehicles a day. |
