Work to rehabilitate the State Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River in Hamburg Borough and Tilden Township, Berks County, will begin Monday (August 17).
During construction State Street will be closed and detoured between Industrial Drive and Front Street. The posted detour will take traffic over Fourth Street, Interstate 78, PA 61, Jetson Drive and Industrial Drive. Crews will rehabilitate the four-span concrete arch structure and install new lighting, concrete curbs, sidewalks, drainage, guiderail, signing, and pavement markings. The project also includes improvements at the intersection of State Street and Industrial Drive, including a new traffic signal, and left turn lane from State Street to Industrial Drive. The project is expected to be complete in November 2010. All schedules are weather dependent. Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Pa. is the general contractor on the $5.9 million project. The State Street Bridge was constructed in 1901. The Bridge is 380 feet long, 38.5 feet wide and has an average daily traffic of 12,172 vehicles. |
