Bridge painting projects financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Lane restrictions have been temporarily lifted on the PA 12 Bridge over River Road and the Schuylkill River in the City of Reading and Wyomissing Borough, Berks County. A project to paint the Bridge began July 22 and is financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The contractor anticipates future nighttime lane restrictions on PA 12, and updates will be provided when they are scheduled. North Star Painting Company, Inc. of Youngstown, OH, is the general contractor on this $4,621,000 project to paint eleven bridges in Berks County. PennDOT will provide updates when work to paint the other bridges will occur. PennDOT expects all bridge painting work associated with this contract to be complete by the end of October 2010. Bridge painting is a critical preservation step that helps extend the life of structures. Within the six-county District 5 region, PennDOT will invest $122 million of federal economic recovery funds on transportation projects, which include road and bridge improvements and Intelligent Transportation System installations.

Route 12: Painting of two bridges (at US 222/422 interchange and over Schuylkill River) in Wyomissing Borough and City of Reading. Route 422: Painting of the overpass just east of I-176 in Cumru & Exeter townships. Route 562: Painting of the bridge over Manatawny Creek in Earl & Amity townships. Eagle Point Road: Painting of the bridge over Mill Creek in Maxatawny Township. Bertolet Mill Road: Painting of the bridge over Bieber Creek in Oley Township. Limekiln Road: Painting of the bridge over the West Branch of the Limekiln Creek in Exeter & Oley townships. Prison Road: Painting of the bridge over a tributary of Plum Creek in Bern Township. Christmas Village Road: Painting of the bridge over Mill Creek in Jefferson Township. Centerport Road: Painting of the bridge over Irish Creek in Centerport Borough. Miller Street: Painting of the bridge over the Schuylkill River in Centre Township and Shoemakersville Borough. |
