|
Work has begun to replace the Centre Street Bridge over Pohopoco Creek in Parryville Borough, Carbon County.
During construction Centre Street will be closed and detoured between PA 248 and Water Street. The posted detour will take traffic over PA 248, US 209 and Cherry Hill Road. Crews will replace the existing structurally deficient steel I-beam bridge with a pre-stressed concrete box-beam bridge. The project also calls for drainage improvements and the installation of new bridge roadway approaches and pavement markings. The project is expected to be complete in November 2009. All schedules are weather dependent. Clearwater Construction, Inc. of Mercer, Pa. is the general contractor on the $1,721,000 project. The Centre Street Bridge was constructed in 1933 and is currently posted with a 12 ton weight restriction. The Bridge is 84 feet long, 26 feet wide and has an average daily traffic of 468 vehicles. The new structure will be a pre-stressed concrete box-beam bridge, and will be 80 feet long, 35 feet wide and will have no weight restriction. |
