Work has begun on the Lower Saucon Road Bridge over Bull Run in Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County.  During construction Lower Saucon Road will be closed and detoured between Apple Butter and Island Park roads.

The posted detour will take traffic over Easton/Hellertown Road, Hexenkopf Road, Morgan Hill Road, Cider Press Road, Tumble Creek Road and Island Park Road.

Crews will install a new pre-cast, reinforced concrete box culvert.  The project also calls for the installation of new bridge roadway approaches, guide rail and line paint.       

The project is expected to be complete in November 2009.  All schedules are weather dependent.

The Lower Saucon Road Bridge was constructed in 1920 and damaged by Tropical Depression Ivan in September 2004.  Shortly after a pipe was temporarily placed until a new bridge could be designed. 

Lower Saucon Valley Road has an average daily traffic volume of 1,825 vehicles.
