Work will start July 21 to improve U.S. Route 22 between Tilghman Street and 25th Street in Lehigh and Northampton counties.
Improvements to Route 22 include concrete patching, milling and resurfacing the highway, new line paint, and new reflective pavement markings. The ramps at the PA 191 and PA 33 interchanges will also be patched, milled and paved as part of the project. Beginning July 21, motorists can expect nighttime single lane conditions on Route 22 east and west between the hours of 8 PM and 5 AM. There will be no lane restrictions during holiday weekends. The first section of Route 22 crews will work on is between PA 191 and 25th Street. Updates will be provided whenever work locations change. The project is expected to be complete in June 2009. All schedules are weather dependent. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra time when traveling through the area or seek alternate routes. Intercounty Paving Associates, L.L.C. of Hackettstown, N.J. is the general contractor on the $6.4 million project. Average daily traffic volumes on this stretch of Route 22 vary from 42,616 vehicles near 25th Street to 97,571 vehicles near the Lehigh River Bridge. PennDOT reminds drivers to move through all work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits and to always buckle up. |
