|
Work will start Monday (July 7) to rehabilitate Interstate 78 between Exit 19 (PA 183) and Exit 29 (PA 61) in Bethel, Tilden, Upper Bern and Upper Tulpehocken townships, Berks County.
The improvements include concrete slab stabilization, milling, paving, installation of new signs and pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction. “We receive many requests to repair this stretch of I-78, and this fall motorists will have a much better ride through Berks County.” District Executive Michael W. Rebert, P.E. said. “We ask everyone to be patient during the construction and use caution driving through the work zone.” Motorists can expect single lane conditions between the hours of 7 PM and 6 AM, seven days a week. Routine schedule updates will be provided, and there will be no lane restrictions during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The project is expected to be complete in October 2008. All schedules are weather dependent. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra time when traveling through the area. Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Harrisburg, Pa. is the general contractor on the $13 million project. This section of I-78 has an average daily traffic volume of 36,292 vehicles. PennDOT reminds drivers to move through all work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits and to always buckle up.
