Work started Monday (June 23) to improve the PA 378 Expressway between US Route 22 and the Hill-to-Hill Bridge in the City of Bethlehem, Lehigh County.
July 11,2008 --- at approximately 2000 hours Penn Dot's paving contractor ( Lehigh Valley Site Contractors) will begin milling the curb lane of SR 378 from SR 22 to the Hill to Hill Bridge. This process will continue through the night to Saturday Morning July 12,2008. While the contractor is milling the one southbound lane the other lane south bound will remain open for south bound travel.
During the day Saturday July 12, 2008 the contractor will pave the south bound lane that they milled down on Friday night. Than Saturday night the milling will be done in the north bound curb lane of Sr 378 from the Hill to Hill Bridge to Sr 22. Following the same procedure as the night before with one lane open. This process will continue through Saturday night into Sunday morning July 13, 2008. The contractor will than pave the north bound lane during the day Sunday completing the paving by Sunday evening with a total reopening of all lanes by Monday morning July 14,2008.
The same procedure is scheduled for July 18-20, 2008 weekend. When the remaining two lanes will be milled and paved.
Penn DOT and Bethlehem Police Officers will be on Sr 378 during the milling and paving for traffic safety and incident management.
The above schedule is subject to weather conditions and equipment failure which could alter the scheduled process.
Improvements to PA 378 include concrete patching, milling and resurfacing the highway, new line paint, and new reflective pavement markings. The total project length is 2.5 miles. Beginning Monday, motorists can expect single lane conditions at night between the hours of 9 PM and 6 AM. The schedule for next week is: Monday (June 23) night there will be single lane conditions on PA 378 north; Tuesday (June 24) and Wednesday (June 25) nights there will be single lane conditions on PA 378 north and south; and Thursday (June 26) and Friday (June 27) there will be single lane conditions on PA 378 south. Routine schedule updates will be provided, and there will be no lane restrictions during holiday weekends. The project is expected to be complete in October 2008. All schedules are weather dependent. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra time when traveling through the area. The original construction of the PA 378 Expressway was completed in 1969, and it currently has an average daily traffic volume of 36,576 vehicles. PennDOT reminds drivers to move through all work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits and to always buckle up. |
